Changing our relationship with alcohol can involve far more than simply deciding not to drink. Alcohol can become connected with habits, routines, social situations, emotions, stress and expectations about relaxation, confidence or enjoyment. Understanding these different influences is important if we want to help clients create meaningful change rather than relying on willpower alone.

HypnoSober®: 30 Days to Alcohol Freedom was developed around this broader understanding of drinking behaviour, giving hypnotherapists a structured 30-day approach for supporting clients who want to reduce or stop drinking. You'll learn how to combine hypnosis with wider therapeutic and behavioural approaches, helping clients understand and change established patterns, develop new ways of responding to triggers and situations, and build a different relationship with alcohol that can continue beyond the 30-day programme.

Problematic drinking is rarely driven by a single factor, and effective therapeutic work needs to reflect that complexity. Clients may be dealing with established habits, emotional triggers, stress, social expectations, routines, beliefs about alcohol, cravings or a reliance on drinking as a way to relax, cope or switch off. HypnoSober®: 30 Days to Alcohol Freedom explores these different influences and the importance of understanding each client's relationship with alcohol rather than assuming that everyone drinks for the same reasons.

The training takes a multimodal approach, showing you how hypnosis can sit alongside therapeutic conversation, psychoeducation, cognitive and behavioural approaches, habit change and practical strategies for navigating life without alcohol. Hypnosis provides an experiential way of working with triggers, expectations, automatic responses and future situations, while other therapeutic approaches help clients understand and change the wider patterns that have become associated with drinking. You'll learn how to bring these elements together within a structured 30-day programme, while adapting the approach to the individual client and helping them develop changes that can continue beyond the initial 30 days.

HypnoSober® Practitioner Training

Our understanding of drinking behaviour has changed considerably, moving away from the idea that reducing or stopping alcohol is simply a matter of willpower. Our relationship with alcohol can be complex and individual, shaped by habits, emotions, social influences, expectations, routines, stress and the role drinking has come to play in everyday life. For hypnotherapists, understanding this complexity—and knowing how to work with the different factors that can maintain drinking behaviour—is essential when helping clients create meaningful and sustainable change.

HypnoSober®: 30 Days to Alcohol Freedom gives you the understanding and practical skills to work confidently with clients who want to reduce or stop drinking, moving beyond approaches based primarily on willpower towards a structured, multimodal programme that recognises the complexity of our relationship with alcohol.

Your training includes in-depth video lessons and written resources, an evidence-informed exploration of drinking behaviour and the factors that can maintain it, practical ways to combine hypnosis with therapeutic conversation, cognitive and behavioural approaches, habit change and psychoeducation, step-by-step guidance for delivering the 30-day programme, client intake forms and handouts, ready-to-use scripts, and practitioner-friendly marketing materials. Assignments are optional, and once you complete the course you’ll receive externally accredited certification. Dr. Claire Jack is also available throughout for support and guidance as you begin using HypnoSober®: 30 Days to Alcohol Freedom with your clients.

Alcohol Hypnotherapy Training Questions & Answers

What is alcohol hypnotherapy training?

Alcohol hypnotherapy training teaches practitioners how to use hypnosis to support suitable clients who want to reduce or stop drinking. Effective training should look beyond willpower alone and explore the habits, emotions, triggers, expectations and routines that can become associated with alcohol. HypnoSober®: 30 Days to Alcohol Freedom provides a structured, multimodal framework for putting this into practice.

Can hypnotherapy help someone stop drinking alcohol?

Hypnotherapy can be used to help suitable clients change some of the habits, associations and automatic responses connected with drinking. It can also help clients prepare for situations in which they might previously have relied on alcohol and develop different ways of responding. HypnoSober® combines hypnosis with cognitive, behavioural and practical approaches within a structured 30-day programme.

How does hypnotherapy for alcohol work?

Hypnotherapy for alcohol can involve working with the thoughts, expectations, habits, triggers and emotional responses that have become associated with drinking. Rather than simply suggesting that someone no longer wants alcohol, hypnosis can be used as part of a broader therapeutic approach that helps clients understand established patterns, practise different responses and create new associations around alcohol and alcohol-free living.

What will I learn in alcohol hypnotherapy training?

You'll learn how to explore a client's individual relationship with alcohol and identify some of the factors that may be maintaining their drinking. HypnoSober® training combines hypnosis with therapeutic conversation, psychoeducation, cognitive and behavioural approaches, habit change and practical strategies, giving you a structured 30-day programme that can still be adapted to the individual client.

Can hypnotherapy help with alcohol cravings and drinking triggers?

Hypnotherapy can be used to work with some of the triggers, expectations and learned associations that contribute to the urge to drink. Because triggers vary considerably between clients, HypnoSober® does not rely on a single technique. Instead, practitioners learn to identify relevant patterns and use hypnosis alongside wider therapeutic strategies to help clients develop different responses.

Is hypnotherapy suitable for everyone who wants to stop drinking?

No. Alcohol hypnotherapy is not appropriate for every client. Alcohol dependence can involve significant physical and medical risks, and suddenly stopping alcohol can be dangerous for some people. Practitioners need to assess suitability carefully, work within their professional scope and recognise when medical or specialist alcohol services are required.

How long does an alcohol hypnotherapy programme take?

There is no single length of treatment that is appropriate for everyone. HypnoSober®: 30 Days to Alcohol Freedom uses a structured 30-day framework, providing clients with a focused period in which to change established drinking patterns, work with triggers and practise different ways of responding. The approach remains adaptable to the needs and circumstances of the individual client.

Who is alcohol hypnotherapy training for?

Alcohol hypnotherapy training is designed for hypnotherapists and other appropriately trained therapeutic professionals who want to develop specialist skills in helping suitable clients change their relationship with alcohol. HypnoSober® is particularly suited to practitioners who want a structured programme while retaining the flexibility to respond to individual patterns, triggers and needs.

Can I complete alcohol hypnotherapy training online?

Yes. HypnoSober®: 30 Days to Alcohol Freedom is available as flexible, self-paced online alcohol hypnotherapy training, allowing you to complete the course around your existing professional commitments and begin incorporating the approach into your practice.
